Basic Tomato Sauce






After tasting this recipe, you'll never eat the jarred stuff again! It's a versatile staple in my freezer.


Basic Tomato Sauce

Ingredients
  • 32oz crushed tomatoes
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 medium onion, peeled and quatered
Add all ingredients to a small sauce pot. Bring to a boil and then reduce to a simmer. Cook for 1 to 2 hours until the onions are soft and cooked through. 

Using an immersion blender, puree the sauce until smooth. Alternatively, allow the sauce to cool, transfer the contents to a blender and puree until smooth. 

Yields about 4 cups

Notes from the Chef:
-This sauce is great served simply over a plate of spaghetti 
-I like to make this in large batches, store in the freezer, and use as a sauce base - amp up with herbs, veggies, and vegetables for various pasta recipes!
