Hawaiian Turkey Burgers
Turkey burger simply beg for bold flavors. These delectable patties are teriyaki glazed and piled high with pineapple, avocado, and red onion.
Hawaiian Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 3 tsp honey
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp sesame oil
- 1/8 tsp ground ginger
- 1 lb ground turkey meat
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 pineapple slices
- 1 avocado, sliced thin
- 1/3 red onion, sliced thin
- 4 hamburger buns, toasted
Combine the soy sauce, honey, sugar, sesame oil, and ginger in a small bowl and set aside.
Grease a large pan with non-stick spray. Over medium high heat, cook the pineapple slices for about 1 minute per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Divide the ground turkey into 4 equal portions and form patties about 3/4in thick. Season with salt and pepper. Place the patties in the pan and cover. Reduce to medium heat. Cook for approximately 6 minutes. Flip the patties and glaze with the teriyaki sauce. Cover and cook for another 5 to 6 minutes until the patties are cooked through.
Place the cooked patties on toasted buns. Top with slices of onion, avocado and pineapple.

Notes from the Chef:
-If I had it my way, I'd be serving these guys up on those sweet Hawaiian rolls, but my husband is always on my case about enriched wheat, so alas, I used wheat buns
-For a tasty spread for the burger, reserve a bit of the teriyaki sauce and whisk into a spoonful of mayo
