Chocolate Oranges
This citrus cookie spin on a classic holiday candy is sweet and decadent.
Chocolate Oranges
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 stick butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- zest of an orange
- 1 3/4 cup flour
- 1/8 tsp salt
- red and yellow food coloring
- 1 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate, melted
Using a stand mixer, cream together the butter and sugar. Scrape down the bowl and add the vanilla and orange zest. On low speed, add the flour and salt. Starting with two to three drops, add equal parts red and yellow food coloring until reaching the desired pale orange color. Beat until combined. Form two equal balls about the size of a small orange. Chill for at least 1 hour.
Using a long, thin knife, cut each ball into 12 to 16 equal wedges. Place each wedge on a greased baking sheet about 1in apart. Bake for 12 to 14 minutes until just golden brown around the edges.
Cool completely.
Dip each wedge in melted chocolate and place on a pan lined with wax paper. Chill for at least 30 minutes until the chocolate has set.
Notes from the Chef
-Not a citrus fan? Skip the zest and food coloring and cut the dough into thick bars or circles
