Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

Two childhood favorites pressed into one crispy and delicious sandwich.

Sloppy Joe Grilled Cheese

Ingredients
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2lb ground turkey or beef
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1 green pepper, diced
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp worchestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp butter
  • 4 slices texas toast bread
  • 2 slices American cheese
Heat the olive oil in a small pot. Brown the ground meat. Season with salt and pepper. Add the onion and green pepper over medium heat until translucent. Add the ketchup, mustard, worchestershire, and sugar. Set aside and keep warm.

In a large, non-stick skillet, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Season the pan with a light sprinkle of salt. Lay two pieces of the bread in the pan. Lay a piece of cheese on each piece of bread. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each bread slice. Top with the remaining two slices of bread. Once the bread is golden brown, carefully flip the sandwiches. Cook until the bread is golden brown.

Serves 2

Notes from the Chef
-Of course, you can simply serve the sloppy joes up on buns
-I strongly encourage the texas toast otherwise your joes are going to sloppily fall right through your flimsy sandwich bread
