Turkey Philly Hoagie
A Philly cheesesteak is a classic, but certainly not something I can afford to eat regularly. So I took a lighter approach!
Turkey Philly Hoagie
Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1lb ground turkey
- 1/2 medium onion, diced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1/3 cup beef broth
- 1/2 to 1 cup shredded Italian cheese blend (mozz, provolone, parm, etc)
- 4 hoagie rolls, toasted
In a large skillet, heat the olive oil. Crumble the turkey into the pan and brown over medium-high heat. Add the onions and peppers, reduce to medium heat, and cook until the onions are translucent. Season with garlic powder, salt and pepper to taste. Add the worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and beef broth and reduce to a simmer.
Just before serving, add the cheese per taste to the meat mixture. Spoon the mixture into the toasted rolls.
Serves 4
Notes from the Chef:
-I dial back the cheese for the sake of my waistline, but come on people, the more cheese, the better you'll enjoy this recipe
-Do yourself a favor and season the hoagie rolls with a bit of butter or olive oil, garlic powder, and oregano for an extra punch of flavor!
